Using the LOS (Length of Stay) Report in the NextGen Emergency Department Module

To increase patient satisfaction and department profitability, it is important to know how long patients are filling a bed in your busy ED. The NextGen® Emergency Department application has a quick view of a patient’s length of stay (LOS) on the status board. However, it can often be useful to pull a more in-depth report to determine exactly how long and why the patient has been in your ED. This report will allow a user to view  and identify every action that has taken place with that patient, including items such as labs, EKG’s, results and much more.

To run this report, click on the LOS hyperlink. The application will then generate a real-time, complete report of all actions taken with that patient.

The LOS report will show a graphic of the data, including a table, detailing the actions and elapsed time.

You may then Close the report, or Print the report.

Printing this report can be helpful when speaking with a patient or family member who feels their time spent in the ED is too long.

Managers may also use the LOS report to help identify lab turn-around times or other bottlenecks in the ED.

We all know that in any ED, time is money. Using the tools, such as the LOS report, provided in the NextGen Emergency Department module can help save money by decreasing patient throughput times, while increasing patient satisfaction scores.
