NextGen Healthcare has published guidance for clients to use in meeting the new SAFER Guides requirement under the MIPS Promoting Interoperability Program.
Published by the Office of the National Coordinator for Heath IT (ONC), the SAFER (Safety Assurance for EHR Resilience) Guides are designed to as self-assessments to help healthcare organizations achieve safe use of electronic health records (EHRs). While the use of these nine (9) guides is mostly optional, starting in 2022, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires MIPS-eligible clinicians to attest to having completed the High Priority Practices Guide in order to receive a score for participation in the MIPS Promoting Interoperability program.
The High Priority Practices Guide consists of recommended practices with a worksheet for each recommendation detailing rationale, examples, and suggested sources for information, including EHR developers.
NextGen Healthcare has published SAFER Guide – Technical Recommendations to help clients develop their responses to those High Priority SAFER recommendations that reference EHR developer as a suggested source of input.
