Regulatory Software Updates Coming Soon

As you may be aware, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently issued a final rule, Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Certification Program Updates, Algorithm Transparency, and Information Sharing (HTI-1) Final Rule, that restructured the way the department will certify Electronic Health Record (EHR) software moving forward. These changes impact many of our clients, in particular those who plan to participate in the Quality Payment Program or any other program requiring certified EHR technology (CEHRT) in 2025.

Who does this impact and how?

  • Healthcare providers and groups participating in the QPP or any other program requiring CEHRT will need to take a software update in the near future. Depending on the program in which they participate, these clients will need to apply the update either before January 1, 2025 or by the beginning of July 2025.

What functionality is in this update and how will clients receive it?

  • The update incorporates required changes to the Clinical Decision Support (renamed Decision Support Intervention) functionality of the EHR and will come in the form of a standalone template package, available in the near future for clients on NextGen® Enterprise versions 6.2021.1 Cures and NextGen® Enterprise 8.

NextGen Healthcare will provide additional details soon, letting you know when these updates will be available and what clients will need to do to update their software. In the meantime, feel free to contact your NextGen Healthcare representative with any questions.
