Providers who are enrolled as suppliers of durable medical equipment (DME) should look for a letter from their Medicare administrative contractor (MAC) regarding a fingerprint-based background check. As part of the Affordable Care Act requirements, all providers and suppliers with five percent or greater ownership in a DME supplier must be fingerprinted.
Once the letter is received, providers have 30 days from the date on the notification letter to comply. If the background check is not completed, providers could have their enrollment application revoked.
