Breaches of personal medical information occurred recently at two local medical facilities near St. Louis, Missouri. Mercy Hospital and the VA are investigating how medical information belonging to a resident in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis, was accidentally released to a fax number.
The Webster Groves resident began receiving the medical records early in 2015 and then again over the last few months. She contacted the two facilities to let them know that she was receiving patient information in error. Both the VA and Mercy Hospital indicated they understand the importance of patient privacy and said they will contact the patients connected to these documents.
