2017 Coding Changes: Molecular Pathology

The molecular pathology guidelines have been revised:

  1. To clarify nucleic acid refers to both DNA and RNA
  2. To define copy number variants and link them to Dup/Del analysis

Septin9 (SEPT9) blood testing has its own code in 2017 – CPT 81327.

The genomic sequencing procedures (GSP) subsection guidelines were revised to clarify that reporting a GSP includes genes that are listed in more than one code descriptor.

Code 81422 was established for reporting a GSP for fetal chromosomal microdeletions.

Code 81539 was established for reporting a multianalyte assay with algorithmic analyses (MAAA) test that measures risk of high-grade, aggressive prostate cancer. This replaces the deleted administrative code 0010M.
