CMS is going through the process of eliminating the 10- and 90-day global periods. The 10-day should be done in calendar year 2017; the 90-day is scheduled for calendar year 2018.
CMS needs to value the E/M services included in these global periods to adjust payment for the surgical service. To that end, they will begin collecting this data in July 2017 to use in 2019.
Practitioners in the following states will be required to report 99024:
- Florida
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Nevada
- New Jersey
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Oregon
- Rhode Island
Only practices with fewer than 10 providers are exempt.
There will be a specific list of codes that requires reporting 99024. That list is not available today but we are keeping an eye out. Some criteria on the list include: they are furnished by more than 100 providers greater than 10,000 times or allowed charges are greater than $10 million.
Providers not in the above states can voluntarily report these visits but they must report all visits for all required codes.
You do not have to wait until July 2017 to start.
