The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is revising the Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) program in order to reduce the burden on providers, increase transparency, and reduce oversight. Under the revised program, CMS will restrict the timeframe it allows the RAC to review patient status to six months if the provider submits its claim within three months of the date of service. With each new contract awarded to RAC program, the revisions will go into effect.
