A new vaccine was released in the Medication Update but I can’t order it from the KBM Immunizations templates – why not?
After a new vaccine is released and distributed via Medication Update, it will be available in the Vaccine Orders Master File in File Maintenance. However, the new vaccine (for example, CPT 90672 Influenza virus vaccine, quadrivalent, live, for intranasal use, FluMist) will not be available for selection on the KBM Immunizations templates (adult or pediatrics) when users check the appropriate check box in the immunization matrix (in this example, the influenza check box).
Though the vaccine can be seen in Vaccine Orders:
The vaccine will NOT be visible here in NGKBM_DBPicklist_Peds_VC (or Adult):
Root cause:
The Medication Update can only update tables in the database that are applicable to medication/vaccine data – it cannot, and will not, update KBM template logic. The KBM templates can only display vaccines in the immunization matrix that were available at the time that NextGen® KBM version was designed and delivered. Vaccines released after General Release of a KBM version will not be displayed in the “NGKBM_DBPicklist_Peds_VC” and “NGKBM_DBPicklist_Adult_VC” DBPicklists that launch after checking a particular checkbox on the immunization templates.
Solution:
To order the new vaccines from the immunization templates, users must use the “Other Vaccines” field which is located beneath the immunization matrix. An important detail to note (as displayed on the templates) – the Other Vaccines process will not check for patient allergies.
Note – you CAN still configure the Lot Number and Manufacturer for this vaccine on the NGKBM_Immunization practice template; the LotNum and Manufacturer will load after you select the item from the VACCINE ORDERS picklist (retrieving LotNum and Manufacturer information is not affected by the release of new vaccines).
If a client would prefer to order the new vaccines from the matrix instead of the Other Vaccines field, and do not wish to wait for a NextGen KBM update to change this behavior, they may opt to work with the NextGen® Consulting Services department to modify their templates as a billable service.
