Important Microsoft® SQL Server 2016 & Third-Party Infrastructure Compatibility Policy Notice

Now is the time to ensure your third-party software components are optimized to ensure a smooth upgrade to NextGen® solutions. We will release NextGen® Enterprise Spring ’21, an important upgrade to our award-winning EHR/PM platform, in the upcoming months. NextGen Enterprise Spring ’21 is much more than a regulatory release. It delivers the agility, visibility, and adaptability your practice needs to meet the healthcare complexities of today and tomorrow.

Maintain Up-to-Date Environment
In addition to enabling a smooth upgrade, keeping your third-party software components up-to-date is essential for the security of your practice and your patient’s data. NextGen Healthcare builds and tests our solutions to be compatible with the current release version of the third-party software components available when our solutions go into General Release.

Maintaining an up-to-date environment is crucial to a successful business. Staying current will:

  • Improve performance
  • Enhance security
  • Improve efficiency across your practice
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Enable the development and benefits of new upgrades

Important Considerations
It is imperative that you plan to stay as current as possible and we encourage proper change control/management policies for client environments. As you begin planning your upgrade, please be sure to take the items below into consideration and review this article on the Success Community for complete details:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016: NextGen Enterprise Spring ’21 will require a minimum of Microsoft SQL 2016 or higher version. The reason is because NextGen Enterprise Spring ’21 utilizes Java-Script Object Notation (JSON) for new features and requires a version of Microsoft SQL Server that supports JSON functionality.
  • Third-Party Infrastructure Compatibility Policies: To operate and successfully utilize the NextGen Enterprise software, certain third-party software components are required from the infrastructure perspective. To better assist our clients in the building of their infrastructure upon which the NextGen Enterprise software will reside, we’ve created Third-Party Infrastructure Compatibility Policies for NextGen Enterprise, 6.2021.1. While a myriad of operating systems, databases, browsers, and related items are on the market, our selection of which such systems to align ourselves to is based on goals that we believe can ensure optimal compatibility, functionality and security for our clients.

While NextGen Healthcare is not responsible for change management policies for self-hosted clients, we will provide every means available to us to assist clients with their change control/management needs.
