You are probably very familiar with John’s strong laugh and larger-than-life attitude. As the previous Director of Account Management, he was the go-to man for client escalations. Now, we are excited to see him take over as the head of the NextGen Hospital Solutions Division!
Before coming to NextGen Healthcare, John was the President of CQI Solutions, Inc. CQI provided a best of breed solution for Surgical Services. The company was acquired by NextGen Healthcare in 2011. John then went on to lead the Account Management team before assuming his new role as the Senior Vice President of NextGen Hospital Solutions.
John is a storyteller and easily conveys his beliefs by describing a recent conversation he had with the CEO of a NextGen Healthcare hospital client. The CEO was concerned that not enough enhancements were being included into the product. John responded in an attempt to set appropriate expectations. He explained that ICD-10, (required in Oct ’15), CQM’s, (required in Jan ’16), and initial work for MU3, (required in Oct ’16), were all in progress and each one of these initiatives required significant product management and development resources. These regulatory requirements cannot be late and they impact every customer. Additionally, the support, product management and development teams work together weekly to address all patient safety issues and any issues directly related to hospitals getting their bills out. He went on to explain that, unfortunately, the hospital group has very little additional bandwidth for additional enhancements. The CEO paused for a moment, took a breath, and said, “I appreciate the detail and honesty.”
“Setting the appropriate expectation during this ‘regulatory nightmare’ is a challenge for any EHR vendor. We’re going to be on time for everything.” –John McCarthy
John is happy to discuss the Hospital Division’s upcoming priorities for the next year and beyond. The number one priority is patient safety, always. Next, comes meeting regulatory compliance and getting your facility’s bills paid. “These are our obligations and we WILL honor them,” states John.
However, even though these priorities are of main concern, Mr. McCarthy is quick to point out that he knows “system speed is everyone’s pet peeve.” He believes that system performance is a major anxiety for clients and he is looking into unique ways to rectify slow-loading screens. Finally, he begins to discuss system improvements, enhancements, and workflow development.
It’s easy to see that John has his plate full! John has strong direction for the division of the company, but knows the road ahead may be bumpy. If you have the pleasure of talking with him, hopefully you will leave the conversation saying, “I know where we are going and I feel better.” Honesty – that’s just John’s way.
