In the NextGen® Inpatient Clinicals (NGC) application, CPOE orders are required to have a frequency created before the order can be submitted . A new document, titled: NextGen Hospital Solutions Inpatient Clinicals CPOE Orders – Standard Frequency Set-Up and User Guide will explain the difference between creating an order based on a “time” schedule or an “interval” frequency schedule. All system administrators need to take steps to ensure their orders are properly defined through the Admin Tool functions. This document will outline the requirements to correct any discrepancies.
Key points to remember, as outlined in the document:
- Each order can only be set up with a frequency (ex: every 2 hours) OR a time schedule (ex: give at 0600, 1200 and 1700). An order cannot have both options attached.
- Clients need to review what they currently have set up, and compare it to the Appendix A-NGC_Master STD Frequency spreadsheet, attached to the referenced document.
- Any incorrect order will need to be inactivated. The client must email the NextGen Hospital Solutions Support team, by emailing HospitalSupport@NextGen.com, to deactivate any incorrect frequencies. Then, the client will re-create the frequency, by following the steps outlined in the User Guide.
- A user cannot extend an order that is based on a time schedule frequency. Only “interval” frequency orders can be extended.
Creating a “timed-based” order (regardless if the order is a pharmacy order, test, diet, procedure, etc.) is the same as creating an “interval-based” frequency order in the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) module. The user creating the order does not change his or her workflow to create a timed or interval order. However, the system will react differently to the different types of orders.
To review the differences between TIMED and INTERVAL orders, and to ensure your region’s Inpatient Clinicals application is properly configured, please review the document titled: NextGen Hospital Solutions Inpatient Clinicals CPOE Orders – Standard Frequency Set Up and User Guide.
