In preparation for the ICD-10 compliance date of October 1, 2015, NextGen Healthcare has created an ICD-10 readiness task force. This task force is aimed at investigating all of the NextGen Healthcare modules and products in an effort to gauge preparedness for clients to meet the October deadline.
The NextGen Hospital Solutions division recently completed an ICD-10 readiness review and we are happy to report that the products using ICD-9 codes are ready to make the switch to ICD-10 codes!
The NextGen® Inpatient Financials (NGF), NextGen® Inpatient Clinicals (NGC), and NextGen® Emergency Department (NGE) modules have been updated and tested to ensure the transition will go smoothly for your facility.
To ensure your facility is ready to make the switch to the new code set, you should confirm that your regions are updated with the minimum compatible versions, as listed below. We recommend using the release notes, available on the NextGen Healthcare Knowledge Exchange (KE) or by request, by emailing HospitalEHR@NextGen.com, to begin testing. Although it is appropriate to “turn on” the ICD-10 codes in your TEST region, do not make the transition in your LIVE region until the proper time.
The below versions (and all higher versions) contain ICD-10 codes:
- NextGen Inpatient Financials version 116.3.0
- NextGen Emergency Department version 6.0
- NextGen Inpatient Clinicals version 2.6.1 (for ICD-10 only)
- NextGen Inpatient Clinicals version 2.6.6, which includes Medical Necessity checking for ICD-10 codes
NGE and NGC allow admin users to select the correct code set as needed. NGF will receive these codes and permits coders to determine the final bill to be submitted to the payor. The NGF application will allow users to set the transition date and will automatically calculate the different codes based on the patient’s discharge date. We highly encourage all NGF users to become very familiar with this process over the next several months. The NGF 116.3.0 testing guide, also available on the Knowledge Exchange or by request, has been created to help users test possible scenarios and acts as a user training guide.
Over the next several months, we will present additional documentation, communication, and webinars that are geared specifically to the Hospital clients. If you feel your facility will need personal training, please speak with your account representative about purchasing additional training hours from our I&T department. However, we are always here to help guide you through this transition. Please email HospitalSupport@NextGen.com with any questions or concerns you have.
