Question: Can our hospital continue to use our recurring/series accounts past October 1, or do we need to manually discharge everyone as of Sept 30 and admit a new account for October 1?
Answer: Series/Recurring Admit Accounts: Yes, you can still use your existing recurring/series accounts for patients registered before October 1 for these services. You do not need to re-register them for October 1.
For series/recurring accounts, these are accounts that auto-discharged at the end of the month and the NextGen® Inpatient Financials application auto-readmits a new account for the next month. The abstract information carries forward from one account to another.
Since the abstract information is carried over month-to-month on these accounts, once the account admit date surpasses the ICD-10 enable date, the system will now require ICD-10 diagnosis coding. Since the account would have the ICD-9 diagnosis codes in the abstract, the system will drop it into the ‘No Medical Records Queue’ for ICD-10 coding before billing can be completed. Your Medical Records/Coding staff will need to toggle the account to the ICD-10 code set and code the appropriate ICD-10 codes on this account in order for it to bill.
