Electronic Case Reporting (eCR) Status Update

NextGen Healthcare continues to work with the national eCR Support Team to complete testing and onboarding with the Association of Public Health Libraries (APHL) Informatics Messaging Services (i.e., the AIMS platform). This platform for electronic case reporting (eCR) is being adopted by public health agencies (PHAs) in all 50 states as the preferred method to receive data on reportable conditions directly from certified electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Unfortunately, testing is taking longer than anticipated, and we currently remain at stage 4 of a 5-stage onboarding process for connecting NextGen® Enterprise EHR clients to AIMS. The primary reason for this delay is the low volume of test data coming from our pilot program. To address this, we recently reached an agreement with the eCR team to expand the pilot from five individual NextGen Enterprise clients to include all clients in a few targeted states. If your state is selected, you will receive a notification outlining the process and giving you the opportunity to opt out. (Note: we are not able to take requests with respect to which states will be selected.)

These NextGen Enterprise and NextGen Office eCR FAQ’s address technical requirements to participate in eCR and outlines the steps NextGen Healthcare clients must take to meet the active engagement requirement under the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Promoting Interoperability program. Briefly, it is still only necessary to register your intent to submit eCR data with the public health agency (PHA) in your jurisdiction and await an invitation to test. Upon completing testing with AIMS, the eCR Support Team will notify PHAs that they can begin onboarding NextGen Healthcare clients.
