Data Sharing Privacy Best Practices Guide

NextGen Healthcare has published its new Data Privacy: Best Practices Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. This guide aims to provide an outline of existing functionality in NextGen® Enterprise EHR that helps clients to manage exchange of patient information containing sensitive data.

Two states, California and Maryland, have passed laws in the last year to require protection of data related to women’s reproductive health, and other states are expected to pass similar legislation in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision (June 2022), which cleared the way for states to pass restrictive laws limiting or eliminating abortion services.

NextGen Healthcare is working to develop new features that support more granular control over individual sensitive data elements. In the meantime, we urge clients (regardless of the state in which they practice) to review the recommendations found in this new guide, which is also available on the Sensitive Data Segmentation and Privacy page on Success Community, and implement the approaches that are most applicable to your organization.
