As of October 1, 2016, the G codes used for patients who smoke, but are asymptomatic (G0436, G0437) have been replaced with two CPT codes. Both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients will use the same codes:
- 99406 – smoking tobacco use cessation counseling visit; intermediate, greater than three minutes up to 10 minutes
- 99407 – smoking and tobacco use cessation counseling visit; intensive, greater than 10 minutes
