Due to an unprecedented level of electronic requests due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Immunization Registry (CAIR2) recently announced changes to enhance their ability to efficiently process the increased volume of HL7 messages. Any providers interfacing with San Diego County (SDIR) and San Joaquin County (HealthFutures) are not impacted by these changes and may disregard this message.
Effective August 31, 2021, all providers must move their submissions to a new Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud endpoint to retain submission capability. After August 31, 2021, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) will no longer support the current data submission endpoint and your existing interface will not work.
What is CAIR2 changing?
CAIR2 has requested that all Electronic Health Record vendors change their existing submission destination URL to a new CAIR2 cloud endpoint. Additionally, they recommend that Data Exchange (DX) Submitters use a new Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) operation which separates VXU submissions from QBP submissions. Details for both are described in their announcement.
NextGen Healthcare is working closely with CAIR2 to support this effort and has provided guidance to our impacted California clients to ensure a smooth transition is completed before the August 31, 2021 deadline.
