CMS just released a highly anticipated proposed rule to overhaul the Medicare Shared Savings Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Program (MSSP). This proposal would fundamentally revamp the Medicare ACO program, creating two new participation tracks and forcing existing ACOs to accept more risk or leave the program. Other proposed reforms seek to make the program more sustainable for ACOs over the long term by changing CMS’s cost benchmark methodology and beneficiary engagement policies.
