2019 CPT codes available soon

The American Medical Association (AMA) 2019 CPT codes will be available soon and now is the perfect time to ensure your practice is covered.

Need CPT codes?
We can help! Simply contact your NextGen Healthcare account manager to purchase 2019 CPT codes. They’ll be available for upload in December and take effect January 1, 2019.

Purchased 2018 CPT codes from us last year?
If you purchased 2018 CPT codes from NextGen Healthcare last year and agree to automatic renewal of your 2019 CPT codes, you’re good! Watch for 2019 CPT codes in December. Then we’ll simply invoice on or around January 10, 2019 for the associated annual renewal fee for the number of 2019 CPT code licenses that comprise your auto-renewal order.

Don’t wish to auto-renew? It is very important to notify your NextGen Healthcare account manager before November 30, 2018 if you wish to cancel your auto-renewal. After November 30, 2018, NextGen Healthcare is obligated to pay AMA for the total number of 2019 CPT code licenses active with our clients. Accordingly, we cannot issue a return or a refund created by your auto-renewal—and associated CPT licenses—after November 30, 2018.

Auto-renew benefit
When you auto-renew your 2019 CPT code license purchase through NextGen Healthcare we also provide you with the latest HCPCS codes; they become available late November 2018. We bundle both code sets (including RVU mappings) into one file for you to easily import into NextGen® Enterprise. And it’s less costly!

Whether you are purchasing for the first time or auto-renewing, CPT and HCPCS codes from NextGen Healthcare are less expensive than from the AMA directly because the AMA charges for both code sets.

Stay in AMA compliance
Review the AMA License Terms definition of a “Provider,” found here. We encourage you to audit the number of licenses your practice needs based on the AMA rules to lessen the chances of a future AMA audit. Purchases through your NextGen Healthcare account manager must adhere to AMA requirements and it is our goal is to ensure you purchase and use the correct number of licenses.

Avoid an AMA audit
The AMA has been auditing the use of CPT codes more frequently. CPT code and related editorial content is the intellectual property of the AMA and they reserve the right to audit how codes are obtained and used. AMA has developed sophisticated audit protocols to determine when users last purchased CPT code licenses plus how and when new code sets or changes have been distributed that require new or updated CPT license purchases/subscriptions. If an inconsistency is found, it’s important to understand that the AMA may issue an infringement letter as the result of their audit. The letter will require a practice to validate the purchase of CPT code licenses for the correct number of providers going back a minimum of three years. Remaining compliant is important. Please protect your practice by complying with all AMA rules.
