New 2017 ICD-10 Codes Required

ACTION REQUIRED
Effective October 1, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) mandated all providers utilize the new and revised ICD-10 CM codes. Due to the code freeze over the last several years, there are now thousands of code changes for 2017. Hundreds of codes have been deleted and thousands of codes are new or updated. Action is required to be in regulatory compliance and to avoid claims processing interruption.

CDC Guidelines for ICD-10 Coding and Reporting FY 2017 are available here.

REQUIRED NEXT STEPS
All clients, including those managed by NextGen® Managed Cloud Services, are required to take action to update ICD-10 codes. NextGen Healthcare has created an article titled 2017 ICD-10 Update Process Overview, available on the Success Community to assist you.

This article contains step-by-step instructions outlining actions you need to complete to update your ICD-10 codes. These steps must be completed to update your NextGen® system with the 2017 ICD-10 code changes. You must be on an ICD-10-supported version at minimum before applying these changes:

  • NextGen Ambulatory EHR 5.8 Hotfix 144 or higher
  • NextGen Ambulatory EHR 5.8 UD 1 Hotfix 140 or higher
  • NextGen Ambulatory EHR 5.8 UD 2 Hotfix 16 or higher

If you are hosted by NextGen Managed Cloud Services (MCS), the MCS team will proactively perform most of these steps on your behalf.  Please note: a few steps will be your responsibility to complete and are outlined in the article.

If you have any additional concerns or questions, please email AskICD10@nextgen.com or open a case on the NextGen Healthcare Success Community using the category Practice Management and the topic PM Financial.
