HHS releases health IT strategic plan.

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released its updated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan 2015–2020.  The plan reflects input received from more than 400 public comments since the release of the draft plan earlier this year.

The stated goals of the Plan are to advance person-centered health and self-management; transform healthcare delivery and community health; foster research, scientific knowledge and innovation; and enhance the U.S. health IT infrastructure.  (See here for more details.)

Impact for NextGen Healthcare clients: This plan is a strategy/vision document that does not create any legal or regulatory obligations for EHR vendors or healthcare providers. However, we are likely to see future regulations and policies from the government in support of the plan.
