Under the modified Stage 2 rules, providers planning to attest to meaningful use (MU) for a 90-day reporting period in 2015 have until November 30, 2015 to actively engage with a public health and/or specialized registry or meet applicable exclusions.
Providers scheduled to meet Stage 2 in 2015 must report two measures from the three available measures under Objective #10 (Public Health Reporting), while providers previously scheduled to meet Stage 1 must only meet one.
- Measure #1 – Immunization reporting
- Measure #2 – Syndromic reporting
- Measure #3 – Specialized registry reporting* (providers may count this measure twice if they are unable to attest to measure #1 or #2)
In order to successfully meet each measure, a provider must prove “active engagement” with a qualified registry within 60 days of the start of the MU reporting period. Under the rules, providers have three options for meeting the active engagement requirement:
- Active Engagement Option 1 – Complete Registration (i.e., register intent with a qualified registry)
- Active Engagement Option 2 – Testing and Validation
- Active Engagement Option 3 – Production:
For providers not yet sending test or production data to a registry, the first step is to complete registration. Providers who have not yet done so should register with the public health agency in their jurisdiction and/or a specialist immediately.
Note: Providers may qualify for one or more exclusions and/or alternate exclusions under the modified Stage 2 rule. (See FAQ) However, whether a provider chooses to meet the active engagement requirement or claim exclusions, it is essential to save correspondence and other supporting documentation
