NextGen Healthcare has more than 400 Community Health Center (CHC) and related services clients. Our eLearning department has put together a set of courses to help CHC clients configure their NextGen® Practice Management (PM) application to better meet their unique reimbursement needs. As with all NextGen® eLearning offerings, these courses can be completed at your own pace, in your own time.
Our CHC eLearning courses can help you to set up NextGen PM to meet CHC-related requirements to:
- Have your government payer qualified encounter service item charges roll up to a single summary charge
- Allow certain procedural charges to be carved out and billed to an alternate payer
- Complete UDS and other periodic encounter-based reporting
- View patient information such as homeless status, migrant worker status, language barriers, family size, and income
- Charge a single rate regardless of the services performed
- Adjust off all the charges on an encounter and replace them with a single, flat rate charge.
- Combine multiple same-day services per patient into a single claim.
- Use variable charge adjustment rates based on family size and income.

CHC eLearning Offerings
NextGen Healthcare eLearning offers CHC-oriented courses in the Community Health Center 5.8 curriculum.
5.8 CHC Setup – Overview (16 minutes) provides an overview of setting up NextGen PM functionality specific to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), Rural Health Centers (RHCs), and Indian Health Centers (IHCs).
5.8 CHC Setup – Government Payers (40 minutes) covers setting up NextGen PM to handle the specific needs of CHC-related organizations for government payers such as Medicare and Medicaid.
5.8 CHC Setup – Encounter Tracking (40 minutes) explains how to set up NextGen PM to handle the specific needs of CHC-related organizations for qualified encounter report UDS data collection needs.
5.8 CHC Setup – Encounter Rate Billing (50 minutes) shows you how to set up NextGen PM CHC-related encounter rate billing functionality.
5.8 CHC Claims – FQHC PPS Billing Utility (35 minutes) explains the steps you need to implement to file FQHC claims under the Prospective Payment System that combines multiple same-day services per patient into a single claim.
5.8 CHC – Health Center Reports (25 minutes) demonstrates how to work with the NextGen PM reports that apply specifically to CHCs and other similar organizations.
5.7 System Master Files – Sliding Fee Schedules (45 minutes) covers setting up NextGen PM to use variable charge adjustment rates based on family size and income.
