If you are an “eligible professional” as defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and you did not successfully participate in the 2014 Medicare EHR Incentive Program, “payment adjustments” will begin on January 1, 2016. You can avoid the 2016 payment adjustment by applying for a 2016 hardship exception by July 1, 2015.
The hardship exception applications and instructions for individuals and multiple Medicare eligible professionals are available on the EHR Incentive Programs website, and outline the specific circumstances that CMS considers to be barriers to achieving Meaningful Use, and how to apply. There are also exceptions by which you do not need to submit a hardship application to avoid the payment adjustment.
For more information about the Medicare Payment Adjustment and exceptions, please visit the EHR Incentive Programs website for the latest news and updates on the programs.
