AL/NYC Immunization Registries and TLS

Please be aware that some state’s immunization registries are making updates to their Transport Layer Security (TLS) and require TLS 1.2 or above. Please read below newly added guidance.

What is TLS?

TLS a secure communications protocol that provides privacy and data integrity between two communicating applications. It’s the most widely deployed security protocol used today and is used by web browsers and other applications that require data to be securely exchanged over a network. TLS ensures that a connection to a remote endpoint is the intended endpoint through encryption and endpoint identity verification.

Action may be required

The State of Alabama’s immunization registry, Immunization Patient Resources with Integrated Technology (ImmPRINT), and New York City’s Citywide Immunization Registry (CIR) are making updates to their Transport Layer Security (TLS) and require TLS 1.2 or above.

Alabama’s deadline is 9/21/21 and New York City’s deadline is 10/1/21.

NextGen Healthcare has opened a case on behalf of any impacted organization. If your organization already has an open case for this issue, we will utilize that case instead of creating a new one. For those organizations with multiple Main Client Community Users, only one case will be opened and assigned to one of these users. Our technical teams will work with each organization to complete any required testing of the configuration changes. We do not anticipate this will be a lengthy process.
