2017 Coding Changes: Noninvasive Drug Eluting Devices

Two new Category III codes were created for placement of a drug-eluting ocular insert:

0444T – Initial placement of a drug-eluting ocular insert under one or more eyelids, including fitting, training, and insertion, unilateral or bilateral

0445T – Subsequent placement of a drug-eluting ocular insert under one or more eyelids, including re-training, and removal of existing insert, unilateral or bilateral

There is a note referencing code 0356T for insertion and removal of drug-eluting implant into lacrimal canaliculus.

The codes are reported once even if both eyes are treated.
