CMS has announced a delay of the August 31 deadline, now giving providers until January 1, 2021 to begin using the Advance Beneficiary Notice of non-coverage (ABN) forms for all services requiring notification of non-coverage under CMS rules. Providers must update the forms to comply with Medicare requirements. CMS has posted the new form and instructions along with updated guidelines on its website.
CMS has included new guidelines for issuing an ABN to dually-eligible patients (i.e., patients enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid).
Updating the ABN Form in NextGen® Enterprise EHR
An updated version of the form in Crystal Reports for NextGen® Enterprise EHR will be posted here on the Success Community at a future date, along with instructions for uploading the Crystal Report file. CMS has indicated that either the current or new form will be acceptable until January 1, 2021.
NextPen® Users
NextGen Healthcare will also release an updated ABN form, which you will need to begin using by January 1, 2021. Along with the current form, the new form will be available here on the NextPen page in Success Community and will be included in the forms specialty zip files. As with the form for NextGen® Enterprise EHR, you will have the option of using either form for the remainder of the calendar year.
