Critical October 1 Deadline for 2016 MU

How are you doing with MU in 2016?

With all the news swirling around MACRA, it is important not to lose sight of 2016 Meaningful Use requirements. October 1, 2016 is a critical date for the 2016, EHR Incentive Program. Here’s a recap of what you need to know.

2016 Meaningful Use Requirements

In 2016, all eligible professionals (EPs) providers must meet the complete set of 10 modified Stage 2 objectives. To view the details, review the CMS Specification Sheet here. Also review the alternate exclusions available for 2016 here.

EHR Reporting Period

Based on the current rules, 2016 is scheduled to be a full reporting year for all returning MU participants. But … if you haven’t been on track for the full year, don’t fret. A proposed rule calling for a 90-day reporting period is expected to pass. That means if you haven’t started yet, you should get into full swing by October 1, 2016 to achieve 90 days of MU before the end of the year. (The attestation system will open in January and returning participants will have until February 28, 2017, to attest.)

First-time MU participants already have a 90-day reporting period in 2016, but under the rules must not only meet MU, but also attest by October 1, 2016, in order to avoid a payment adjustment in 2017.
