As of January 1, 2016, CPT® code 69209 will be used for the removal of impacted cerumen via lavage or irrigation. CPT code 69210 is still used for the removal of impacted cerumen via instrumentation. When cerumen is not impacted, any removal would continue to be billed as part of an E/M service. When billing 69209, it is important that the provider documents that the cerumen is impacted.
