Medicare recently confirmed it will pay for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (99183) with a same-day E/M service by giving the code pair a modifier “1”. This went into effect as of October 1, 2015 per the 21.3 version of the National Correct Coding Initiative (CCI). As always, documentation for medical necessity should be provided.
